- Principal Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences – has become a familiar name in both print and broadcast media over the past year for her expert insights into the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alongside her university research, Dr Pitt has had a long-time role as Chief Examiner for Virology at the , overseeing the setting of professional exams and continuing professional development activities carried out by the Institute.
Dr Pitt said: “I am surprised and very honoured to receive this award from my professional body in recognition of the work I do for them, including training and education of biomedical scientists - both in academic programmes here at the University of 麻豆果冻传媒 and the Institute's professional qualifications.
I am also involved in preparing policy and information for Institute of Biomedical Science members and the wider public. This has included explaining virology, laboratory testing and vaccines on national and international media during the last 12 months. My colleagues have always been very supportive of the work I do for the Institute, and have been particularly understanding while I have been doing COVID-19 related work".
Commenting on the honour, the IBMS said: “We are very grateful for all that Sarah has done on behalf of the profession - particularly while virology remains such a vital subject in our everyday lives... Sarah has contributed tirelessly not only to panel business but to wider activities in the IBMS, bringing her experience and passion for her field and teaching to the fore.”
